April 4, 2017

Three billion people around the world live in poverty and face hunger on a daily basis. The Catechism reminds us that “the Eucharist commits us to the poor” (ccc 1397). Therefore, we will again kick off the Archdiocese of Atlanta’s 2017 Eucharistic Congress with our Friday morning meal packing event – STARVE WARS! EPISODE II – Families Feeding Families!

STARVE WARS! is a collaborative effort between the Archdiocese of Atlanta’s Justice and Peace Ministries, Catholic Relief Services, Helping Hands and the people of the Archdiocese of Atlanta. We are seeking 650 volunteers of all ages to help pack 100,000 meals to go to the impoverished developing country of Burkina Faso in Africa.

The event will take place Friday, June 16th in Hall A at the Georgia International Convention Center in College Park. There will be two sessions, 9:00 a.m.-10:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

In order to be more inclusive, the first session will have Spanish interpreters and the second session will be set up to accommodate those living with disabilities. Ordained clergy and those in formation are encouraged to join us for either or both sessions.

Space is limited and online registration is required to participate. To register online, click HERE.

As with any event, funding is paramount. Last year’s event was funded by generous donations from CRS major donors and Justice and Peace Ministries.
In order to pack 100,000+ meals this year, we must raise a total of $50,000. We are blessed that CRS major donors have again committed to provide $25,000, leaving us a minimum of $25,000 needed to pack our goal of 100,000 meals.

We are praying that this goal will be met by the generous contributions of our parishioners. Online registration includes information on individual and team fundraising.
